DESTIN — Officials have released the identity of the 30-year-old Destin man who disappeared Monday afternoon while free diving in the gulf.
Jerry Dean "J.D." Lee, an operator with Emerald Horizon Beach Service, disappeared around 3:30 p.m. after leaving his waverunner to search for sand dollars in the Gulf of Mexico.
Two teenagers riding with Lee told law enforcement he got off the waverunner to go under for sand dollars, but never came up, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff’s report.
At the time of his disappearance, the gulf waters were under a red flag indicating rough surf conditions.
The Sheriff’s Office along with Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Destin Fire Department and Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are working to locate Lee.
