Tropical system in the Gulf
ST. PETERSBURG — Floridians living and visiting the Gulf Coast region should keep an eye on a tropical system swirling in the Gulf of Mexico.
The system might bring thunderstorms and gusty winds to southwest Florida this weekend and forecasters say it has a 70 percent chance of turning into a tropical depression in the next 48 hours.
If the system were to become a tropical storm, it would be called Debby. Friday morning, the system was located near Cancun, Mexico. It is shifting slowly northward.
