The current world record for pompano of 8 pounds, 4 ounces was threatened recently by a fish caught over in Gulf Shores by a man fishing from the beach. It weighed 7.03 and was one pound under the current record.
The current record was caught in St. Joe Bay in 1999 by Barry Huston while fishing for trout and using a floating Mirror-lure. Catching an 8-pound pompano is a once in a lifetime occurrence, but catching one on a floating trout lure truly is something.
